Who says cats and dogs don’t get along?

This summer, the cities of Catskill and Hudson host public art exhibitions in their business districts.  Due to the overwhelming success Cat’n Around Catskill cat-n-aroundcatskill.com public art project, the Heart of Catskill Association decided an encore was in order.

This year in celebration of Henry Hudson’s discovery of our beautiful river the Catskill Cats will be decorated in themes depicting the wonder of the this great valley we call home.

60 painted fiberglass felines will be sCATered along the historic Main Street in the Village of Catskill for this summer-long celebration.  Bring the kids, bring your camera and spend an afternoon prowling about with our capricious, whimsical, imaginative kitties.  Don’t forget to visit our wide array of shops, galleries and eateries as you stroll.  We guarantee you’ll go home with a smile on your face.

Cat’n Around Catskill 2009 will culminate with a live auction of our fabulous felines at the Cat’s Meow Auction and Gala on Sunday, October 4th at The Historic Catskill Point on the Hudson River Our kitties will be looking for a permanent home.

Hudson Best in Show July 4 - Oct 12

The streets of historic Hudson will once again be home to 60 dogs of the painted variety. The hounds will be painted by local artists and become part of “Best in Show: Discover Columbia County ‘09” a public art project that is enjoyed by people of all ages.  The public art display will open on Warren Street on July 4th and continue until the dogs are auctioned off on Columbus Day weekend.

Best in Show is a project of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce.  The beneficiaries this year will be: Columbia County Council on the Arts and Perform Columbia, the 24 member performing arts collective comprised of organizations throughout Columbia County.  Last year beneficiaries received $10,000 from auction proceeds.  Local artists also benefit financially as they receive 25% of the auction price or their creation.

Last summer thousands of visitors and local families roamed Warren Street to enjoy the creative and colorful painted pups.  “I believe this is a great project that gives people one more reason to enjoy Hudson and Columbia County,” said Hudson Mayor Rick Scalera.

This event has several purposes – boost tourism, feature local artists, promote local businesses and benefit local arts organizations.
